What A Guy

A DIAMOND ring usually does the trick when it comes to a marriage proposal.

But Guy Sebastian raised the bar for his long-time girlfriend Jules Egan in December when the series one Australian Idol winner got down on bended knee in Hervey Bay, Queensland.

The 26-year-old proposed with not just a ring of 140 diamonds, but threw in a Louis Vuitton handbag, a four-wheel-drive and keys to a fully furnished holiday house.

"I went for the multi-pronged attack," Sebastian laughed.

Wedding plans are in the early stages while Sebastian completes a national tour on the back of his successful Memphis Album, appearing at the Civic Theatre, Newcastle, on Wednesday night.

There was a lot to consider, the singer who met 28-year-old Egan 13 years ago at the Assemblies of God Paradise Community Church in Adelaide said.

"We only just got engaged, so we're trying to get it all organised. There are so many people to consider. There are people in London, Adelaide, Melbourne, Sydney.

"It will come to fruition, I'm sure."

In the meantime, Sebastian is living out his dream touring with the backing of Memphis soul musicians including guitarist Steve Cropper, who co-wrote and recorded with the likes of Otis Redding, Al Green and Wilson Pickett.

Sebastian said it took a bit of convincing to get the tour off the ground.

"It was really cool for me to get them and, furthermore, convince them to come to Australia.

"I promised them heaps of barbecue ribs and told them Aussie chicks really dig old musicians . . . nah, I just kept planting the seed when I was there [recording the album in Memphis] and saying, 'If you guys wanted to come to Australia I'd love to have you on tour'."

Tickets to The Memphis Tour are available through Ticketek online at ticketek.com.au or by phoning 4929 1977.
