Man Charged Over Diamond Ring Killing

A diamond ring from a failed engagement that Simon Taylor tried to resell to further his medical studies has been recovered by police investigating his killing.

The $26,000 ring that the 33-year-old advertised for sale in the Trading Post newspaper was allegedly among a number of items recovered by detectives during a search of a Bass Hill home on Sunday night.

The same night, Feras Dehaybi, 20, a mechanic, of Bass Hill, presented himself to Glebe police on as Leichhardt detectives mounted an investigation into the killing of Mr Taylor, who died after being stabbed in a lane off Wigram Road, Glebe, at 8pm on Friday.

Dehaybi appeared in Newtown Local Court yesterday charged with murder.

Mr Taylor, from Neutral Bay, had gone with his parents to a nearby premises to sell the ring to a man who answered their for-sale advertisement in the Trading Post.

Dehaybi, who did not enter a plea and did not apply for bail, was also charged with wounding with intent to murder Mr Taylor's father, Robert, 64, who remained in a stable condition with a punctured lung in Royal Prince Alfred Hospital yesterday.

Dehaybi was also charged with aggravated robbery.

He was remanded in custody to reappear before Central Local Court next Tuesday.

Leichhardt detectives yesterday were hunting for a male aged in his late teens who was allegedly present during the robbery and stabbing.
